My #dotcomplication was when my phone address book misfired and set a good friend’s contact info to ‘block’. Once set, she would text me and I would text her, but the texts just didn’t go through. Birthdays were missed, feelings hurt, and our friendship was in serious danger of falling apart before I realized the setting was on and fixed it. Who knew technology could be so hard? – Sarah Kunst
Five years ago, I met a cute guy in a bar who didn’t call me within a few days. Being a “lean in” kind of girl, I naturally Facebooked him with the embarrassing and frank message: “Hey dude. Is this you?” In my mid-twenties I thought it was completely appropriate. Now, I laugh at my curt words. In sixty days, I am marrying this guy and even though my approach may have been against “the rules,” I love that the digital space empowers women to go after the men (and dudes) they set their sights on. – Adrianna Giuliani
One of the trickiest moments I face as a business owner is whether to accept when my clients or staff send me a friend request. It would be awkward not to, and could be taken as rude, but it also means I probably censor myself on Facebook more than if it were just a collection of my friends. Being a ‘friend’ means that colleagues can now see my family photo albums and learn a whole lot about me. It can be positive and create a better bond – or sometimes it can just get too close. How do you know when to friend and when not to? – Heather Mason
