I’m sure you’ve heard the impossible mantra: Drink 8 cups of water per day. But who actually drinks that much? And is 8 cups even necessary for your weight and body type?

A new slew of water-tracking apps aim to help you regulate how much water you drink on a daily basis. Enter every glass, set reminders to drink more, and track your consumption.

Both major operating systems have apps with slick interfaces and user-friendly features.

Water Your Body, free on the Google Play store, has a slick graphic green interface. My favorite feature is the ability to choose the type of water bottle, glass or mug you drank out of, making it easy to count exactly how much you drank throughout the day.

Waterlogged, free in the iTunes store, has a simpler home screen. You can set custom reminders to pop up and remind you to go get a glass. This app allows you to photograph your glass so it can estimate how many ounces you consumed.

What do you think about using apps to track your water intake? It seems like too many pop-ups to me, and just another thing to remember to do. But they could be really useful to help you establish a habit of drinking more water, especially if you’re dehydrated often.

Will you use one? Let us know in the comments below.
