We Asked You!

We asked you last week if you share passwords with your significant other. For those who do, which ones are you comfortable sharing? Your email? Phone passcode? Debit PIN? Facebook? If any are totally off-limits, why? Below are our favorite responses from our readers.

We are married, so we share all of our banking information. We also share our computer and phone logins so we can use each other’s devices. We have never had a reason to share email or social media passwords, but we would if it were somehow beneficial to running our household. We mostly use those accounts to socialize or do business, which does not rely on our partner. We aren’t the kind of people who feel the need to check in on what our partner’s up to online. -Hazel

Our Tips For Managing And Securing Your Passwords

  • How long would it take to hack into your account? How Secure Is My Password? is a cool tool where you can type in your password and see how many hours (or seconds – yikes!) it would take for a hacker to crack your password. We tried it and were a little scared – which is a great incentive to buckle down!
  • Make sure you create a secure password. Last week, a security breach on Twitter caused about 250,000 accounts to be hacked – a reminder of how important it is to re-evaluate your passwords and make sure they are secure. The trick is to create longer passwords and avoid including words from the dictionary (even though they’re easier to remember). Watch this video from Mashable for more tips.
